Military time is a way of expressing time which is used primarily in the military, emergency services and transportation industries. It is a 24-hour clock based system which replaces the 12-hour clock traditionally used in civilian settings. This system of telling time can be confusing if you are not used to it, however the time chart below can help you better understand it.
To convert from 12-hour clock to military time, start by adding 12 to any hour after noon and subtracting 12 from any hour before noon. For example: 1:00 pm becomes 13:00 hours and 11:00 am becomes 11:00 hours.
To convert from military time to 12-hour clock, simply add or subtract twelve depending on if the time is after or before noon respectively. For example: 15:00 hours becomes 3:00 pm and 07:00 hours becomes 7:00 am.
Here is a chart showing examples of both 12-hour clock times and their corresponding Military Time equivalents based on whether they are AM or PM.
